I enjoyed the book a lot to start with. But towards the end, when Harry saves the 2 bimbos, the sex scenes start and you kind of wonder what they are doing there. Mind you, I like a bit of steam in a book. It is just that the way things happen, the way Harry is grieving for his family and wife one minute and the next, has sex like a young stud with 2 young girls (seriously!!) is not credible. The style of narration completely changes from there and it is like the author is rushing to end the book. There would have been a lot more to write, plots to develop but no, Mr Clarke decided he had enough and that we would be satisfied with some shallow plot and a bit of sex here and there.
This book left a bitter taste in my mouth. I am only giving it 2 stars because in spite of a great begining, the ending sucks and I won't recommend it nor read it again.

The Ebola Variant The Deadliest Plague edition by Brian J Clarke Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I would have given this five stars if it weren't for the textual errors, such as too many spaces, a's, the's and other articles left out. These a function of poor editing. I liked the storyline, it was exciting and held my attention through the whole book.
I couldn't put it down it moved through the story at a pace that I like wishing for a sequel
Great characters, very well told, easily visualized. Especially liked the length - enabled more story to be told. Will look for more from this author.
An ok book...I just finished a plague series that was great and guess I expected more from this one. Can't seem to get into it. A previous reviewer commented that the book rambled on and on - I couldn't agree more. I found myself having to go back and reread - it just didn't hold my interest. The British terminology was confusing, too.
This could have been well done if the author had decided whether to write a non-fiction surmise based on heaps of factual info or a fiction. As it is each intrudes on the other for an overall disjointed and disappointing read. The two can be combined much more smoothly than done here. Also in several areas one must suspend belief rather often as character act out of character on a moments' notice.
The story is very entertaining, don't get me wrong, I do encourage people to buy it, but I'm running across proofreading errors and typos on just about every page. I'd go so far as to call it a mess. Singular possessives are not correctly punctuated, sentences are short and choppy, there's a tendency to refer to people as objects or non-entities, and the lack of commas and semi-colons abound.
Since I can't seem to find an author page for Brian, or even an email address, I'm leaving this here
Brian, you need a decent proofreader and copy-editor; whoever's been doing your manuscripts doesn't know what they're doing. You can find my rates on my website. I don't know if will allow an email address or website URL here, so follow this w w w dot myname dot com slash redpen .
I was really excited about the concept behind this book. The idea behind how ebola becomes air borne and even more deadly is convoluted, but believable (for me). I did like that the story switches around alot.
Where it breaks down for me first, is the excessive use of different cultural dialects. It pretty quickly became stereotyping and mildly racist. The author also wrote with what seemed to be a sexist view of women. That got more irritating as the story went on. I got the distinct impression that the book was written in 1920. The behavior of the women in the book, particularly after Harry finds the big book, unrealistic and uninteresting.
The author needs to work on punctuation and usage. He also needs to work on formatting his ebook for easier reading. Double spacing between paragraphs, or indents; anything that keeps the pressure off of the reader. Another thing that really doesn't work for me, and I see it alot in this genre, is when all of the top government leaders are written as ineffectual buffoons who can't find their own thumb in a well lit room...with help.
I *can* recommend this book for the $1.00 I paid, even a little bit more. What I find most frustrating is that the author, in this and his other books, has really great stray ideas. Exactly what I like to read. But as a female reader, the author just isn't going to hold my interest or respect.
